Linkoping hosts world's first Plantagon Greenhouse

altRepresentatives from Linkoping city, Plantago and Tekiniska Verken in Sweden gathered to celebrate the ground work for the first Plantagon Greenhouse.

The first of its kind, located in Linköping, the Greenhouse will be the primary food source for growing city populations with the development of offices and businesses around the iconic design and monument of architecture. 

"I am immensely proud that Linköping is the chosen site for the first vertical greenhouse. We will be the first city in the world to test the new technology and the systems involved to develop sustainable agricultural solutions for future cities," said Paul Lindvall, Mayor of Linköping.

ADzero is the first smartphone made from organic bamboo

altKieron-Scott Woodhouse, from Middlesex University, generated a lot of interest at the London Design Week after coming out with a design for a bamboo-cased smartphone. After posting his concept online, Woodhouse was contacted by a technology entrepreneur to make the phone into reality and branded it "ADzero". This will be the world's first smartphone made out of authentic bamboo.

Biodegradable paper wine bottles in stores next year

Designs  were revealed by the UK-based Greenbottle company  to produce biodegradable paper wine bottles and reduce carbon footprints in the process. The bottles, made from paper, is held in a plastic liner similar to what they have in a wine box.

Engineer and innovator, Martin Myerscough, founded Greenbottle after witnessing the staggering amount of packaged waste at a dumpsite. A solution  was needed.

“I saw all these bottle there – which only have a 14-day lifecycle – but might spend 200 years in landfill,” Myerscough explained. This would help rid the planets problem of the estimated 30 million plastic bottles and billions of glasses in the long run.

Giant ice slabs to reduce summer energy usage in Mongolia

Ulan Bator, the capital of Mongolia, has authorised engineering firm ECOS & EMI to launch a large scale experiment in making giant ice slabs to reduce air conditioning costs in the summer. These slabs are commonly known as “naleds”, and are to be  when the need for cooling and water regulation are at their highest in the year.
